The Computer (Hardware) was Slowing Me Down...

Yeah, that's it. ;) Seriously, though, finally able to upgrade my computer (which, for the record, cost more than my current car. Heh.) I went with this Gateway - although, looking it up now, neither the website or the in-store person recommended this package for $50 more, with an LCD and photo-printer. Ok, just checked the website and saw it wasn't available in store. Didn't need the photo-printer or monitor, though, and I might need the $50 for the heater in my car (Bessie is her name, if you're wondering...) which went out today. The computer can make me money, though. I don't currently need a car to get to work. So it'll all work out.

Related to the shopping experience (all research online, then going to store to pick up), I checked Walmart.com, CircuitCity.com and BestBuy.com.

Of the three, Walmart has the worst site (imho). I didn't take notes, but it didn't offer as much as the other two.

Anyway, the infamous 'Falcon Laptop' I was using will go into retirement (along with Emmett Smelser's computer from The Star Press - heh. long, funny story there...) The new 'puter isn't an Apple, but it's nice and fast and isn't slowing me down as much as I multi-task.

I'm still seeking equipment donations for Muncie Free Press' mission to help the people of East Central Indiana, though.

Anyway, just thought I'd share today's little adventure in the life of an independent new media publisher in the 21st century.

Meeting with Jomo Williams from CityNFocus on Monday to talk strategy of how we can work together.

Should be really interesting.

Back to work setting new puter up. (Maybe a list of my 'must have' FireFox extensions later. ;)
