From Scoop to Drupal

From Scoop to Drupal

Well, I think I've finally been convinced to drop Scoop and switch to Drupal on Muncie Free Press.

Lots of reasons, but the nails in the coffin were Al Jordan bringing up ease of use and one platform and also noting that DailyKos announced they were dropping Scoop last November. (How did I miss that?) In any case, it seems D-Kos is going to create their own CMS. Good for them. (Wish I could... might someday...)

The thing is, though, Drupal has such an active development community. I like that. Scoop was good in its day, but it has a lot of limitations. (Someone needs to 'Scoop out the Scoop code' and start from scratch ;)

Anyways, I'll let you know how it goes. Decision made today. Work started today.

kpaul out...

heh

i just had a thought about how this would work if i was still working for Gannett:

1) identify problem and solution
2) submit to corporate
3) wait
4) hear from corporate that a solution has already been chosen for me
5) plead the case
6) etc ad naseum...

it's nice being a new media publisher. ;)

i do think it's a good idea. we'll see how it goes. wish me luck...

stories and users done

stories and users are all moved over. was a little bit tricky with the way drupal does nodes now, but it appears to be working. attempting to move comments now.
