Praise the Lord, Today was a Good Day
Submitted by kpaul.mallasch on Thu, 04/20/2006 - 10:51pm.Today was a good day in a lot of ways. First, we had a citizen who lives in an apartment building next to the one that caught fire yesterday get ahold of me about photos he took of the fire. I was able to publish 100 photos of the fire on Muncie Free Press w/out having been at the fire. It was a citizen - a citizen journalist if you must call him that. Second, and also importantly, I had another citizen, in another town, FTP 200 megs worth of audio from their local Town Council meeting. I'm working on editing the raw material now. This is a feat, though. I didn't have my hands in any of the gathering or sending of the raw material. It was another citizen.
For all those still in the corporate world, there's some good news for you too. Well, maybe not good news for you. I sold my first used car lot - collector cars and what-not even. Get this - his father is the president of the local car club. I don't remember if I told you guys (and ladies) or not, but last year I did a lot of coverage of the local car show circuit. There's a connection between the two - the audience and the content and now, the ads.
I don't want to give you the price yet, but it's low, low, lower than yours. I told the guy I'd give him the good price if I could train him to keep it updated on his own, rather than me having to do it. That way, I can charge less (a lot less) than all the folks from Chicago Town down here selling the car lots (Cars.com included...)
It's coming together, world, and I praise the Lord Jesus Christ for that. A lot won't want to hear that, but I have to give props where props are due. Miracles are beginning to happen. A revenue stream is forming out of the rock from where there was no revenue stream before.
I still have the 'Slidecast' simmering, as well. A lot of other ideas still in thought stage only (Amazon has a *lot* of great ideas no one will be doing outside the top 10 cities for many more years to come. I'll brand them and grab the audience before they get here.)
The newspapers sure aren't. Well, they're trying. The pursestrings that control the whole machination run things, though, so it isn't worth it to them while I'm talking about 'peanuts' in terms of revenue. These small streams can support a lot of different people, though, as we try to SAVE DEMOCRACY.
Yes, I believe Jon Stewart had it right when he said big media was *hurting* America.
So, as Ice Cube wrote, today was a good day.
Thanks for listening. Now, back to work.

Now, you might be asking,
and rightly so - why 200 megs. the meeting's in this town (Gaston) are *routinely* 6+ hours. marathon sessions. not a lot of citizens sit through the whole thing. something just isn't right about the whole situation. now, though, the material - the truth - is going to get sent out there through the cooperation of a small group of citizens and myself through MFP - Muncie Free Press...
6+ hours! I mean, that's a story of something going wrong, isn't it? and it's a small, small, small town.
Just sold another ad
This one a bar in Marion, IN. also Gannett territory. Only a month, but it will help sell the others. Almost Hank brand/site is coming along as well...
I'll be out most of the afternoon working with the car dealer. Back later with more thoughts, though...
