Grassroots Journalism Volunteers

Pretty much stuck in Elwood again today, but that didn't stop me from getting a lot of work done. One of the highlights today had to be Craig Mayes (a volunteer firefighter and police officer for the city of Anderson, Indiana) supplying photos and a story about a MoveOn.org Anti-War rally that happened outside of Congressman Pence's Anderson Office.

The story starts yesterday, when Joh Padgett (who's working on the Welsh campaign) emailed me asking if I could cover an Anti-War Rally that Barry Welsh would be attending. I emailed back and said I'd try to find someone but couldn't promise anything.

I knew it was too short notice for something like MFP Volunteer (which is still just a baby), so I emailed a couple people from that area. One, Craig Mayes, volunteered to go shoot photos and do a little write-up.

I haven't collected the data into a 'proper' story yet, but the photos are out there. He was ok with sharing them with Welsh's campaign as well.

Padgett is really the first person from a campaign group to work closely with me. So it's not that I'm favoring their group - I want to work with more people to get all their views out there. That's part of my job as a journalist.

Anyway, lots more work to do. Super Secret Project II will demand a lot of attention this weekend as well as SSP I.

I leave you with one of his photos. See more of his great photos at Anderson Free Press.
