Noticed I was getting an ad via Google for Carmel Star on Muncie Free Press. Interesting. Is this Gannett's big jump into Citizen Journalism? Anyone got any more details?
Looks pretty slick. I wonder what will come of it. Is it just Carmel now? Will Muncie have their own soon? And if so, will citizen journalism then become newsworthy?
On a semi-related sidenote, I have a nagging suspicion about my own Google Adwords campaign I've started back up. Not gonna say more til I've dug up the facts, though.
So, any Gannetteers out there want to pony up some details on whether or not this is Gannett's big CitJ play?
If it is, and even if they send the model to Muncie, there's still going to be room (and a need) for Muncie Free Press in the community. Things won't get really interesting until our print product starts up.
(And I know, I know, I've been *talking* about that for a long time. When you don't have millions of dollars at your disposal, or thrown to you, you have to be resourceful and raise your own capital, and that's what I've been working on. More details on this later. I can say that it's very Web 2.0-ish, though, and I'm doing it for the money mostly.)
I guess I could still blog other articles here and there (and probably should - like the NewAssignment project by Rosen and crew), but I need a little more time. Bear with me. Hopefully some other Journalism Hope readers will step up to the plate and offer some blogs or stories about hope in the world of journalism.
Until later...

Google Adwords ...
well, it wasn't what i thought it was (heh. sorry. ;) although i do have one person that goes to one of those crappy domain landing pages that Google allows adwords on - EVERY SINGLE DAY THEY COME TO THE SITE. Grr. i mean, i want them as a visitor, but do they realize they're eating up what few dollars i have to advertise by going to that crappy domain landing page and clicking on the ads instead of bookmarking the site or remembering the URL?
and Google, if you're listening, clean up your act. i don't believe in your 'do no evil' mantra anymore. you're all about the money now it seems. i've complained about my ads showing up on these domain landing pages (Gannett really should go after them for using terms similar to their papers - i know they'd go after me if i did the same...right? hmmm...) anyway, they told me there's nothing i could do to stop my ads showing on these crap sites with no content.
not to mention a lot of other evil things they've been doing lately. (like, for instance, why is it ok for Gannett papers to SELL TEXT LINKS on their site, cross-link their properties heavily, etc. and not get penalized? Why, Google, Why?)
meh. it's saturday. i'm ok, really. i feel better after ranting a bit, though. i forgot how soothing posting to blogs can be sometimes... ;)
