AFP Print 1.3 Let Loose

AFP Print 1.3 Let Loose

Well, another issue is out. At least some of the copies. Around 17,000 will be mailed October 8th. The rest I'll be handing out around town and at events. There's a thread at AFP - where we actually have quite an active close-knit community.

No excitement still, though. Well, there's a little excitement, but mistakes made again and so much still to do. You have to start somewhere, though, and one person putting out an 8-page tab is no small task, even at once a month. I have a volunteer lined up to help with copy editing. I shouldn't've been so sloppy, though. It's in the details.

The printing was a little off this time too. I'm not sure why yet. I pointed it out to the printer to make sure it wasn't something I did and that their specs haven't changed. I felt bad about bringing it up, but it was off-center by about a quarter of an inch and looked kinda awkward. The fold wasn't as good as the first two copies either. (Maybe I got another shift working on it this time?)

Overall, though, they did a great job.

I'm (already) looking at ditching the inside color (for the moment) and going down to 30# paper for an issue or two.

We DID sell ads for this issue - quite a few. Not enough to cover all the costs, but fairly close. I'm hitting the streets heavy again myself for issue 1.4.

I'm exhausted.

And that takes away from some of the excitement maybe? That and not having anyone to share it with really. I think the bulk of it is that there's still so much more to do, though.

A lady at the printer today said she was talking to someone else who had three years or more in and still wasn't making a big profit. I tried to explain that I had the website too - that there was a plan for the end game.

I have a few other cards up my sleeve that I'm doing to put down on the table soon. Wish me luck with those.

I'll try to get a PDF of AFP Print 1.3 up sometime soon.

Is anyone reading anymore?

Is there hope for Journalism?
